What inspired you to work in education recruitment?
I’ve been working in recruitment since 2020, and over that time I’ve developed a real passion for building relationships and understanding what people are looking for in their next opportunity. However, working in education recruitment has given that passion a much greater purpose.
A huge part of that comes from being a dad to my beautiful eight-year-old daughter, Harriet, who really is my world. Becoming a parent completely changed my perspective on education. When you leave your child at the school gates each morning, you are putting an enormous amount of trust in the people around them. You want to know that they are safe, supported, encouraged, and surrounded by people who genuinely care about their development.
That has made me appreciate just how important every person within a primary school is. Whether it’s a teacher, teaching assistant, SEN specialist or support member of staff, the right person can have a huge impact on a child’s confidence, wellbeing, and development.
What’s your favourite part about working with educators and schools?
Without a doubt, it’s the relationships I build with schools and the people I represent. I really enjoy getting to know a school beyond simply understanding what vacancy they have. Every school has its own culture, values, challenges and expectations, and I believe taking the time to understand those things is what allows you to make the right match.
I’m particularly passionate about primary education because of the influence staff can have during such an important stage of a child’s development. Primary school is where children begin building their confidence, independence, and attitude towards learning, and having the right adults around them can make a lasting difference.
There’s a real sense of satisfaction in knowing that someone I’ve introduced to a school could be the person who helps a child believe in themselves, overcome a challenge or simply have a better day at school.
If you could share one piece of advice with someone considering a career in education, what would it be?
My biggest piece of advice would be to remember that every child is different. What works for one child might not work for another, and some of the best people in education are those who take the time to understand that.
Be patient, be approachable and, most importantly, be willing to adapt. You don’t always need to have the perfect answer or solution straight away sometimes simply being someone a child can trust and feel comfortable around can make a bigger difference than you realise.
Short Biography
I have worked in recruitment since 2020 and now specialise in education recruitment, with a particular focus on primary education across Coventry and Warwickshire. I’m passionate about building genuine relationships with schools and candidates and finding the right people for the right environment.
Being a dad to my eight-year-old daughter, Harriet, has given me a real appreciation for the importance of primary education and the trust parents place in the people looking after and supporting their children. That perspective is something I bring into my work every day.
Outside of work, weekends are usually spent doing some form of adrenaline-packed adventure with my daughter. I’ve also recently developed the dreaded words: a golf addiction.
I’m still working on the actual golfing part although I seem to have become exceptionally good at donating golf balls to water hazards.
