Cover Supervisor

Job Description

 

Link3 are recruiting for motivated individuals who have an interest or passion for Education & Teaching; Candidates are required to work as Cover Supervisors across a variety of Schools and Academies in Nottinghamshire.

So what is an unqualified teacher? An unqualified teacher is a member of staff who covers teachers’ non-contact time by supervising a variety classes. An unqualified teacher’s main job is to manage the classroom behaviour and ensure that students remain on task with the work they have been set.

This role is perfect for individuals who are looking to get into teaching or have a general passion for Education. 

Typical responsibilities of an unqualified teacher include:

Teaching grammar
Managing behaviour
Discussing and debating texts with pupils and answering questions
Differentiating and allocating extension exercises

This position is very flexible and can be full or part time on a temp or perm basis. If candidates excel within the role some schools are prepared to offer teacher training and a direct route to becoming a Qualified Teacher (QTS).

As a minimum, all applicants must have; a recognised bachelor’s degree (teaching or non-teaching), have a positive and open approach to managing behaviour and be passionate about your subject which is evident in your performance. Applicants will be subject pre-employment checks and should hold current DBS check registered to the update service.

Cover Supervisor

Cover supervisors are suitably-trained school staff who supervise pupils carrying out pre-prepared exercises when teaching staff are on short-term absence. The cover supervisor’s main job is to manage a classroom, ensuring that students remain on task with the work they have been set.

What’s involved

Cover supervision varies significantly depending on whether the role is undertaken in a primary, secondary or special school. Existing staff who are asked to undertake cover supervision should be given the option of taking it on as a role in itself or as part of a role. The role should not require any active teaching, marking or planning.

Duties may include:

  • supervising work that has been set in accordance with the school policy
  • managing the behaviour of pupils while they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment
  • responding to any questions from pupils about process and procedures
  • dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures
  • collecting any completed work after the lesson and returning it to the appropriate teacher
  • reporting back as appropriate using the school’s agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class, and any issues arising
