Teaching assistants are an integral part in pupil progress and development and are usually the heartbeat of a school. teaching assistants or learning support assistants provide much needed support directly to students academically and often emotionally too. A teaching assistant or learning support assistant will provide a hands-on role in helping children learn in both a one-on-one setting or in groups.
A teaching assistant is a very rewarding role you will see the day to day and long-term impact on the lives of the children you work with. TA/ LSA roles are very competitive so having a specialist area or skillset may give you a slight advantage in the classroom. If you speak a foreign language, have a passion for SEN or a strength in a particular subject your school may encourage you to develop your skills and utilize you in a more specialised role.
