What inspired you to work in education recruitment?
My passion for working in education recruitment stems from my experience working in schools, where I developed a deep commitment to the education field. Having witnessed firsthand the profound impact that dedicated educators can have on young people’s lives, I am driven to contribute to this mission in a meaningful way. I believe that by focussing on education recruitment, I can help ensure that the most talented and passionate individuals are placed in positions where they can make a significant difference. My goal is to play a role in shaping the future by connecting schools with educators who are not only qualified but also share genuine dedication to improving the lives of young people.
What’s your favourite part about working with educators and schools?
My favourite part about working with educators and schools is the opportunity to interact with passionate individuals every day. I love being able to connect with people, understanding their needs and aspirations, and then helping them find their dream roles. There’s something incredibly rewarding about placing a teacher in a position where they can thrive and knowing that I’ve helped a school find the perfect fit for their community. It’s a fulfilling experience to be part of a process that shapes both careers and educational environments.
If you could share one piece of advice with someone considering a career in education, what would it be?
If I could share one piece of advice with someone considering a career in education, it would be this: Just go for it. Education can seem overwhelming at first—the responsibility of shaping young minds, the challenge of meeting diverse needs, and the sheer workload can feel daunting. However, these initial hurdles are far outweighed by the profound rewards that come with the job. There's nothing quite like the moment when a student grasps a concept they've been struggling with, or when they express gratitude for the impact you've had on their life. These experiences make all the hard work worth it. You'll find that education is not just a job but a vocation—a chance to inspire, nurture, and make a lasting difference in the world. So, if you have the passion, the patience, and the dedication, dive in. The rewards, both personal and professional, are immeasurable.
Biography
Hi, I’m Kiel van Vollenhoven—a guy who loves to talk (sometimes a bit too loudly, or so I’m told). I grew up in sunny South Africa, where I was always outdoors, probably chasing a ball of some sort. If it was a sport, I played it: Rugby, Football, Tennis, Athletics, you name it. But cricket? Cricket stole my heart. I was lucky enough to play professionally in South Africa and even made it over to England to don the Warwickshire jersey in 2021.
Now, when I’m not helping people find their dream jobs in education recruitment, I’m behind the mic, chatting about cricket on BBC Radio Nottingham. Because, let’s be honest, if there’s one thing I love as much as cricket, it’s talking about cricket. So, whether I’m on the field, in the office, or on the airwaves, you can bet I’m having a good time—and probably talking a bit too much!
