What is a teaching assistant?
Teaching – or learning support – assistants support teachers and help children to develop and grow. You’ll enjoy a rich, varied and rewarding career working with children and helping to improve their literacy, numeracy, creativity and social skills, as well as supporting youngsters with special educational needs. While no two days are the same, some of your responsibilities may include:
Getting the classroom ready for lessons
Listening to children read, reading to them or telling them stories
Helping children who need extra support to complete tasks
Helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records
Supporting teachers in managing class behaviour
Supervising group activities
Carrying out administrative tasks
Support your teacher colleagues and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.
